Hello to those that know me and those that don't..

Erm, I'm not sure if this thread will take off, but who knows. Nearly 400 pages on another certain site - Springer, I should get a special winners medal for that you know toofunny.gif

The rules are as follows:

I willl make the first post by giving you a cryptic crossword clue.

You will try to solve.

If after 24 hours (or so) and no one has posted the correct answer, a letter will be given in the solution. So on and so forth until the correct answer is posted.

The general description of a 'proper' cryptic clue is:

A typical clue gives you two ways of getting to the answer, either of which can come first. One part of the clue is a definition, which must exactly match the part of speech and tense of the answer. The other part (the subsidiary indication, or wordplay) gives you an alternative route to the answer. (A second definition in the case of double definition clues.) One of the tasks of the solver is to find the boundary between definition and wordplay and insert a mental pause there when reading the clue cryptically. (Sometimes the two parts are joined with a link word or phrase such as "from" or "could be".)

The full Wiki article is here: Crossword
and there are millions of other web references.

OK

First clue is:

The answer is easy in clues of this type (4).

oh and to try and help others along an explanation of how we get to the answer is always good thanks.gif

cheer.gif We all used to have fun on the crossword thread on my other site.

Ooo, he's given us a stumper for the first one. I'll have to think about this. Mind you, not enough coffee this morning yet!

I'll put the clue in red, Paulos. Bold white doesn't show as much does it?
